A Thanksgiving Gallery
A few weeks ago, Kyle and I took our kids down to the Farm to spend a weekend with some of our dearest and best friends: Becky and Greg and their 3 kids. It had been a long time since we had spent extended quality time with our friends with no other reason for us to get together. Usually, there's a Razorback game, birthday party or some other reason. But every now and then, we like to plan a weekend with just us and for no reason other than a desire to spend time together.
Gavin decided to distance himself from the group by hiding behind a limb.
As such, he is the only kiddo not pictured here with Kyle and Greg.

The weather was perfect: crisp, cool, fall. I went down to the Farm with my kids on Thursday in order to cook, shop for our meals, and get ready. It was also a rare opportunity for me to experience the blissful solitude of the place. Even with my Brooklyn and August there, it was quiet enough to be perfect. They played together while I made lasagna, tiramisu, homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, wassail, brownies...the smells of baking food soon filled the house and all was well.

Kyle came down after work on Friday and Becky and Greg arrived shortly before midnight. As Kyle and I stood outside the house under the perfectly black, star-punctured sky, talking softly to ourselves while the kids slept in the back bedroom, we could hear the distant crunch of leaves under the feet of grazing deer. Becky and I got to talk and enjoy each other's company. Kyle and Greg took the kids fishing on our pond. I led the kids on a nature walk around the property. Greg studied for his architectural exams. And when it was all said and done and everyone left on Sunday evening, I stayed behind to clean the house, wash the sheets and tidy up for the next guests...and even that was relaxing. Once again, the Farm served as a perfect setting for relaxation and bonding. Thanks again to Mom and Dad for providing it for us!!!
