Hodge Podge

While it's not officially summer, it feels that way around this house because we are mostly free from our normal obligations. I am consumed by that feeling you probably remember from childhood - the anticipation of a day unplanned, a week unscheduled. The endless possibilities and the delight that affords you!

The sheer luxury of an open schedule is almost as delicious as the thick mug of hot chocolate I just made myself.
5 ounces of bittersweet chocolate, chopped
2 cups of milk
pinch of coarse sea salt
Melt the chocolate with the milk and salt in a medium saucepan.
Bring to a boil for a minute or two and let it thicken.
Pour and savor with a dollop of whipped cream.

While my kids occupied themselves, I popped outside to check on the haphazard garden.

These two tiny hydrangea plants I put in a few years ago have reached full size and are exploding from their little bed - filling me with utter joy!

I have three tomato plants, one of which is already offering up a plump little ball of green.
I have two cucumber plants and a pepper plant.

I have roses galore which are in various states of bloom. And from the looks of things, it's high time I restore order to the beds back there.

Wild strawberries have taken over along with the English Ivy.

I'm so happy to see ferns making good use of the shade and moistness!

A tiny display of some roses that I thought I killed last year. Not intentionally.

A few more drooping over from the weight of their blooms.

And a very promising spot by a sunlit window awaits me in just a few moments.
Sigh...Life is good.

  1. The garden looks great. And that hot chocolate looks scrumptious in that bright green mug! yum!

So...you need to come out here and help my poor hydrangeas. They are lacking, to say the least.
