A Perfect Morning

 Dorien - 10 weeks old

Due to the delightfully cool weather we're experiencing, we slept last night with all our windows open. Which makes for a very good sleep. Even after waking up to feed Dorien at 2:30, 4:30, 6:30 and then at 8:30, I was happy. It was a good night. And rather than sleeping in on Saturday mornings as we usually do, I hopped out of bed after Dorien finished nursing and he, Brooklyn and I picked up my sister Rachel and went to our local Farmers' Market.

There is something I just love about outdoor Farmers' Markets. Particularly the small one that sets up only a few miles from my house. It's completely organic and truly all from local farmers. There is one on the other side of the river that is basically just an outdoor Kroger. Most of it is not local or organic. So I feel more "responsible" shopping at ours. And I love discovering new things. Such as this Brown Jasmine rice which is grown so close by and tasted DELICIOUS! (they were giving out samples)

And what can beat farm fresh strawberries? Glistening, plump, bursting with flavor.

They so much smaller and sweeter than anything you buy in stores. I love them!
I plan to serve these with some homemade whipped cream. Simple and perfect.

And I've never bought fresh broccoli like this! I can't wait to steam it!

And I've spent the last several minutes just cooing back and forth with my precious baby. I love him so much and I can't believe how fast the time is passing!

Right now, I'm his favorite person on earth. And he's pretty high up on my list too. There is nothing I love more than burying my nose in his little neck and kissing his sweet cheeks. Love. Pure love.

  2. Ash, I am SO with you about buying local and organic. The benefits--physical, emotional, and of conscience--are such a part of my thinking now that I almost can't bring myself to consider buying from conventional grocer's any more!
Glad to see that you and yours are doing well (and better than in fever-weeks).
