Epiphany

I had an epiphany last night. I had just finished watching one of my all-time favorite movies: Pretty in Pink. I am such a sucker for that movie. It goes on my list of movies that I can watch over and over and over. There's something so grotesquely wonderful about Andie's (Molly Ringwald) fashion creations. And her GHASTLY prom dress. I have no idea what possessed anyone to ever think that even might have been the teensiest bit fashionable... (I read on the internet that she was the beginning of Granny Chic. Is there really such at thing?) And I know she chooses the "richie" sweet, spineless, quirky-smiled Blaine (Andrew McCarthy) and they live happily ever after. But I personally sort of preferred the nasty, cruel, apathetic, richly slouchy Steff (the FABULOUS James Spader). How could it end well if she chose Steff? It couldn't, so they didn't write it that way, but still...you gotta love James Spader. In any role, really.

That was not my epiphany, though. I've always thought Spader is fantastic. My epiphany had to do with Duckie, the goofy, nerdy, faithful pal of Andie's who has, of course, been secretly in love with Andie for 8 years. As I occasionally do after watching an old movie, I wondered what ever became of him. So I looked him up on imdb.com. Turns out, he didn't fizzle out. He is currently on 2 and a 1/2 Men! And you know, I KNEW there was something familiar about that guy!

In fact, the first time I watched the show, several years ago, I thought there was something annoyingly familiar about him. But it wouldn't come to me. And I gave it up. Until the lightbulb went off last night! CRAZY!

  2. You know I have always hated that dress!!! Especially since she "designed" it herself and worked so long on it. Barf. I can tell you right now that dress would have only taken about an hour to make for someone with little talent and she was suppose to have loads of talent. Didn't she want to be a clothing designer? All that drama and build up and she walks into the prom wearing that?!? Really?!? Please!
